PREDATOR: BADLANDS (FUI ANIMATION)

Produced at:  Perception

Client: 20th Century Studios

Description: I had the opportunity to work with the incredibly talented team at Perception, where I animated FUI (fictional user interface) graphics for the film, “Predator: Badlands”. It was especially fun bringing to life interfaces for the fictional Weyland-Yutani Corporation, drawing from the retro-futuristic visual language established throughout the “Alien” franchise while supporting the crossover with the “Predator” universe. While the final look of the interface would have a futuristic holographic feel, the way the UI animated on and off mimicked the look of early PCs from the 70s and 80s. So a lot of flashing and typing on, and less fluid smooth animations. The opening scene from 1979’s “Alien” was a huge inspiration as it shows a great boot-up sequence of one of the Weyland-Yutani computers.
